The Purpose of Accessing Higher Ground
Hosted by AHEAD on behalf of ATHEN, Accessing Higher Ground is a five-day gathering focused on accessible media, Universal Design, and assistive technology across higher education, business, and public-sector settings. It draws IT and web professionals, ADA coordinators, disability services staff, faculty, and media specialists to work through the practical side of accessibility: legal and policy compliance (ADA and Section 508), accessible document and content creation, and building accessibility into curriculum and digital infrastructure.
Why Attend Accessing Higher Ground?
This year’s conference spans over 100 onsite sessions plus a virtual track, covering accessible documents, PDFs, video, learning platforms, and alternate format production, alongside legal and policy sessions on ADA Title II and Section 508 requirements. Through hands-on workshops, breakout sessions, and an exhibit hall, attendees leave with concrete strategies for closing accessibility gaps and building more sustainable accessibility programs at their institutions.
